Depression

potentially severe illness

Depression is a common and potentially severe illness in which repeated stress affects the ability of the patient to experience happiness or pleasure. Depression affects the entire body though and not just mood. Chronic stress and depression cause a number of changes in body functioning including sleep, appetite, energy levels, pain tolerance, cardiovascular functioning, and the immune system. Dr. Lutter’s research has focused on the intersection of brain and body and how depression disrupts this connection.
